Portable Ultrasound
The portable ultrasound generates deep
heat within body tissues for the
treatment of selected medical conditions
such as relief of pain, muscle spasms,
and joint contractures.
The portable ultrasound is a
therapeutic ultrasound device that
generates deep heat through piezo-electric
crystal sound head. Unlike electrical
modalities, ultrasound is unique in that
the longitudinal waveform associated
with sound is not electromagnetic in
nature. The piezoelectric crystal
converts the electrical energy into a
strong vibratory sound wave or
ultrasound, a sound beyond the normal
range of our hearing.
Sound waves cause vibration of the
cells in the soft tissue, increasing
temperature and inducing vasodilation.
The most frequently available
treatment frequency is 1.0 MHz. With a
1.0 MHz frequency, energy is absorbed
less rapidly with progression through
the tissues, and can therefore be more
effective at greater depth.
